GNS3 switching setup and options Part 5: Etherswitch Router for Cisco Dynamips Part 2

[Music] this is one of multiple videos discussing switching options available in gns3 in previous videos which I've linked below I discussed Cisco IOS avi layer 2 which is the recommended way of implementing switching with gns3 I've also discussed the junus three built-in switch in this video I'm going to demonstrate the ether switcher module which is a module that you insert into rodders to provide switching capability so what I'll do now is something that's not recommended I'm going to put all four routers so router one router to router screenwriter fall in the same subnet a VLAN by definition is a separate subnet but I'm going to do that just to prove the point that the devices won't be able to ping each other even though they're in the same subnet in other words router one won't be able to ping router three as an example even though they configured in the same subnet they can't ping each other because they're in different VLANs so on switch to I'll configure an IP address of ten one one two no shut the interface and hopefully router two should now be able to ping router one interfaces took a bit of time to come up but notice here we've got successful pings I'll do the ping again you can see it succeeds Radha one can also ping router - I could do a debug to prove the point notice there's the echo reply to write a 2 so write a 1 and write a 2 can ping each other here's router 3 interface f 0 / 0 no shut give it an IP address of 10 1 1 3 can it paying right a one answer is no and it shouldn't be able to because it's in a separate VLAN so that's good what about to write a to can't ping write it to either so here's Radha for interface F 0/0 no shut IP address 10 1 1 for paying 10 1 1 2 3 right a fork and ping router 3 router 3 can ping Radha for but as an example right a 4 can't ping Radha one because they are in separate VLANs as these devices on the left are in VLAN to once again devices on the right are in VLAN three separate VLAN so they can ping each other and these two riders can ping each other but they can't ping from left to right or right to left so another test would be to send a broadcast let's see who replies to the broadcast sent by Ryder for only Ryder three replies because only router three is in the same broadcast domain as a router for and on radha one paying the broadcast address only routed two replies to the broadcast now because this ether switch radha is essentially a router with and either switch module in it supports CLI commands as you would expect so we could simply change the VLAN number of port 1/2 to VLAN to so I've changed that to VLAN - so back on Rada one if I ping the broadcast address right at - and router three should reply and there you go they both reply because both those writers on the same VLAN now as Rada one so at this point we've isolated route of four right a fool was able to previously ping router three but now it's not able to ping router three because we've moved rather three from veal and three to VLAN to so there was a basic demonstration of the ether switch module that can be added to a cisco router with ingenious three it provides very basic switching capability it does support spanning tree but only P VST so you can't change the mode to rapid spanning tree as an example so if you type show spanning tree we are running I Triple E compatible spanning-tree in other words very basic spanning tree and not what we really want to run today so there was a basic introduction to the ether switch module which can be inserted in to a cisco router and used within genus 3 it provides basic switching capability and basic spanning tree it doesn't support protocols such as dynamic trunk protocol or DTP advanced benning tree options and a whole bunch of other things but it's good if you want to practice basic switching and basic spanning tree I hope you found the video useful if you enjoyed it please like it and please subscribe to my youtube channel I wish you all the very best [Music]
