all right what's up everybody welcome to our second lesson in the wordpress Money course today we're gonna go over finding your niche so basically a niche is a smaller market of consumers that you're gonna be going after kind of a targeted market of consumers so you narrow things down a little bit so you're able to reach people who are highly interested in your products basically a niche is something that's more targeted so in where you might say sports is a grand you know grand general category maybe golf is a little bit more of a niche market maybe golf clubs a little bit more of a niche market maybe golf training you know putters drivers all these different things can be your niche basically so this whole lesson is going to be going about how to find it basically your niche and how to create something where you can set up a website that you can start selling to customers so you'll see here I'm on amazon.com so Amazon's a great place to find you know big markets and different things that you can target so what we get what we're gonna do here is when you go to amazon.com if you come to departments and just click on the link they're gonna bring you up to a new page here with basically every different department they have on Amazon so they'll always start with their different things with Amazon whether it's subscribing to Amazon becoming a prime member or firetv stick music you can kind of avoid some of these things unless you really wanted to set up an Amazon focus website which I wouldn't recommend because it's gonna be pretty difficult competing with them so basically you can avoid some of these things the app stores you can do those but they're definitely something we're gonna need some background knowledge echo and Alexa is gonna be different difficult so we're gonna try to stay over here a little bit in home garden tools handmade sports and outdoors you can even do food in grocery you know wines huge market gourmet foods especially as people start to turn online to buy more of their food and drinks and different things like that beauty and health automotive is obviously huge all these different you know links down here toys kids and babies you know movies music so there's a lot of things here clothing electronics is obviously huge and just to go back to our niche conversation from earlier a lot of these different things can be considered so you might just want to set up something for headphones you know headphones are constantly changing they just recently came out with a lot of different Bluetooth headphones and they're starting to improve so you know if you said hey I love I love two headphones and I want to start selling headphones to people and I want to create a website where I review different headphones I do different things like that that's a good way to find a niche so basically I'm gonna take you back up here and I want to go through kind of the steps you want to take to find it so my first recommendation of course is to absolutely follow follow your passion so if you're passionate about something specific whether it's you know you have animals and you want to try to sell sets Pet Supplies let's say you love sewing you want to sell sewing supplies or sewing machines finding something you're passionate about is is the way to go because as you're building a website it's gonna be a lot of work as you're building content it's gonna be a lot of work and if you find something that you're passionate about where you can basically follow your own the own things you love and just create your own website where you have people coming in it's much easier for you to continue to build content it's much easier to for you to kind of build an audience and all that I've found that you know I built all sorts of different websites you know and the things that I'm passionate about are always shine through I'm always able to build content better for that I've had some health websites where it's just you know waking up and having to do content for it is just so difficult that I actually just sold them because I just realized like this isn't a long-term solution for me it's not something I love so you know while there might be a lot of money in something like lamps and light fixtures or power and hand tools if you don't love these things and you don't want to talk about them regularly and you don't care about the nuanced details it's gonna be difficult to really follow your niche and follow your passion so that's why I always say to start is follow your passion so for me I see sports and outdoors here see people camping and I actually enjoy camping too so one of the things down here is camping and hiking so let's just say you love camping and hiking that's that's basically how you want to go about you know finding your niche is you say you know I love doing these two things I want to kind of reach people who are like-minded I want to build content around that scent know a lot about it so let's just say you start camping and hiking so we can click here come in you can see all the different things they have kind of they have their own little different categories here that you can go into and you see some of the more popular things that people are looking for when they're camping so let's just say I have no clue where to start what you want to do is open up Google Adwords and you can see I have my AdWords account here not even running anything you know I have nothing at all running so what you want to do is come up here you have the three dots up here and you want to click the Keyword planner so we want to go into Google Adwords and go to the keyword planner and make sure basically we're gonna be looking up keywords to make sure that there's enough of a market around the things that we're gonna be promoting because we don't want to be promoting something that nobody's looking at so here we're in the Google Adwords Keyword planner if you have no clue how to get to here basically what you have to do is you have to create a gmail or a Google account and from there you just sign in with your AdWords account you're just gonna have to set everything up with Adwords I don't know if they make you put in your billing now but they're not going to charge you or anything like that so once you have everything set up you just kind of come into this screen here you click on the three dots and you come down to the keyword planner the keyword planner is incredible it lets you look at basically search volume data for different search queries that people are typing into Google so you know you know how popular things are for example if I type in fitness or weight loss those are huge huge search terms whereas some of the smaller things like automotive things or even camping you know they're gonna be a little bit smaller market so the reason you want to come in here to keyword planner is to make sure that what you're looking up actually has some type of market so basically what we're gonna do is come in here and I'm just gonna type in camping and the only other thing we need to do before we click get ideas down at the bottom is in keyword options they have here only show ideas closely related to my search terms turn that on so everything will be very very related to camping and you don't have to worry about you know having just some unrelated terms show up so we just type in camping that's all we did I have United States set up you want to do targeting wherever you're located but you can do United States a lot of times all United States Canada and United Kingdom that's kind of usually where I start so we do camping we do only show closely related ideas and we're gonna click get ideas now they pull up basically the search term here camping 823 thousand monthly searches that's a broad kind of broad estimate so it's not going to be exactly that every month you'll see the kind of search how the search data go is obviously in the warmer months more people are looking for camping supplies whereas the colder months people pry aren't camping as much so what you're gonna see here is they're gonna automatically bring up all the keywords by relevance and if you might see it come up similar to this where it says you know it just pulls up the ones that they think are the most relevant what you want to do is click on average monthly searches over here so basically what I'm looking for is what are some things that you know do I want to create a huge camping website and have a huge scope for my website or do I want to narrow it down a little bit based on what I'm seeing here I think the smartest thing for me to do would be create a website just built around camping tents because 90,000 monthly searches is a huge huge amount of volume and if I can start a website around camping tents I think I can continue to build it so what we're basically looking for here is let's let me type in camping tents up here and we'll click get ideas so basically what I my rule of thumb here is you always want your average monthly searches to be above 50,000 there's no threshold for how high it goes but just know the higher than mount of searches usually there's a little bit more competition but you know it's it's kind of all relative because you at least have more search volume for that competition so to me there's plenty of volume here for just to create a camping tent website I mean in December it might be a little slow there might be a couple slow months here in the in the winter time but you know just looking at camping tents ninety thousand month you know average monthly search volume best camping tents camping tents for sale you know there's just a lot of different things here each one of these can be a different category on your website so to me camping tents would be a tremendous a tremendous niche if you're looking for one so basically just to wrap this up all you really need to do to find your niche and we're gonna go back here is you come in here to Amazon you want to click down here at the departments section you have all these different departments and what you want to try to do is find something where you know where you're able to find the exact niche you're looking for so I've kind of gone in and done my research already and the niche that I selected so I started looking up different decor and home decor because that's kind of a niche that I want to follow so I was looking up some of the different categories you can get into and the one I'm looking at is farmhouse decor so just to show kind of how I went about finding that basically I just went into Amazon I went into furniture and you see all these different types of furniture here shot by room all these different styles and as I was looking through here one of the big things that kind of stood out to me was farmhouse furniture so what I did is I came up to the keyword planner and I looked up farmhouse decor I actually looked up farmhouse house furniture and mind you I still have only show closely related ideas on and as you can see the the volume is pretty good here so it's about 50,000 every month close to 60,000 for most months kind of speaks up here so here's my thing farmhouse the core farmhouse furniture you know farmhouse home decor kind of get all these different things and I want to kind of build a website all right here's a common issue you're gonna see in the keyword planner when you redo some things there's going to be there is a problem retrieving ideas all you have to do is search again so if you ever have that problem I'm kind of glad we have it in the video you all you have to do is search again so what I'm seeing here is farmhouse decor 33,000 farmhouse furniture 5400 you know farmhouse wall decor there's a lot of different things here and I can see I'm above 50,000 every month some slow months here from September to December but it Peaks you know pretty high in the summer and then pretty high in the winter as well so this is the niche that I'm selecting farmhouse I've done a lot of research into it it's something I'm passionate about you know home decor in general a couple other websites that are similar so I'm able to kind of work off of them and build them at the same time so that's kind of how we go about finding our niche I know the videos might be a little bit long but I kind of want to go through you know talking through it so you kind understand you know some of the thresholds you need the 50,000 search volume you need search volume to make sales so basically what we're gonna be doing is focusing a lot on Google search you know and and different social media services so if you don't have search volume it it's gonna be an uphill battle so that's our video for today hopefully you're able to find your niche just if you can't find anything here in Amazon I mean there's so many different options you have here all down you know home garden tools handmade sports and outdoors food and grocery automotive beauty you can even go into books if you like different you know books you want to create you know a a big community of people who love to read music you know all these different things so there's so many different niche markets and whenever someone says oh they're all taken you know don't listen to them because you know I can go in and I create a headphones I can create Bluetooth speakers you know all these different things are are huge markets and a lot of people are searching for these products all you have to do is build the website you know that's your hard part is building the website to appeal to people so you can sell those products so thank you for joining us for the video today and we'll be back for our next lesson shortly thanks
Original Description
In Lesson 2 of the Surfside PPC Amazon Affiliate Marketing Training Video Series, we go over how to find a niche market for your website. Finding the right website niche can be vital to your success. There are different strategies and tactics you can take but we make it as simple as possible.
What we recommend doing is following your passion first and foremost. You will struggle with a niche you don't have passion for. After that, make sure you find a large enough market with enough Google search volume so you don't limit your upside.
You need to find a niche market for your website if you want to successfully build an Amazon affiliate marketing business. The thought many people have is to build huge websites with tons of product categories, but in reality you want something narrow and targeted. Instead of selling something like pet supplies, choose a niche like dog collars and dog leashes instead, which has plenty of search volume to increase your earnings.
