today we are going to create a world inside a light bulb hello my friends and let's get started I thought it would be nice and funny to place a lighthouse inside of a light bulb so this is what we are going to create today of course we're gonna start fresh so I'm gonna close this version here's our lighthouse and this is a light bulb that we are using the first thing we want to do is to remove the inside so let's go over here use the in paintbrush I will soon in a little bit so you can see better what I'm doing we get to use the in paintbrush just go bit by bit don't do everything at the same time because otherwise maybe affinity photo might get confused on what you actually want to achieve so going step by step is pretty nice and easy and you can see it's really fast to do this also don't be too worried about the look of the heresay the raindrops or the water drops because nobody will critique you on those it's really nice maybe look out for repetitions in the picture like this one which doesn't seem to want to go away now it's away okay good let's take this part down here I'm gonna take a little bit of a bigger chunk now there we go nice and now the one down here I'm not gonna do the bottom part because this will be covered up with the lighthouse anyway so we shouldn't have a problem with that okay there we go let's safe this real quick safe okay the next thing we need to do is to create a mask on the picture for this I gonna to use my lasso tool because there's nothing much to work with for our selection brush so we're gonna do this by hand it's a little bit old-school but it's very nice and fast set your lasso to act so you can take little breaks and reset the picture to a different position and you can see because it has a smooth surface this is a really quick thing to do there we go let's select this part let's go with the other side we have taken already our first pit stop so to say let's go up here pretty easy pretty fast and it's just a protection for us so we don't go outside of the light bulb later on when we add stuff to it by the way hold the shift key so you get these straight lines so you can go click click click and use your mask or create your mask this is much easier than going freehand where you can easily have a shaky hand and then mess up what you're doing so this gives you a lot of control and as you can see it still looks pretty round although it's made of all straight lines so it's pretty nice we are almost done let's take another break over here well clean this up a little bit there we go let's go like this at this part and then we are done with our selection I will how can say smooth it out a little bit by feathering it there we go so let's see this is our selection let's go to select and feather and I will set it to 2 pixels apply and then you just have to click over here on the mask layer and you see now we have just our light bulb so let's drag out the mask so we have a mask and the picture so we can use the mask wherever we want to I will save again so in case we crash we are safe so the next thing we need to do is to repeat this with the lighthouse and I will use first the same technique with our lasso tool to select the lighthouse and then refine it with the refine function so this gives us a very easy and fast way to do this let's go up here select this there we go down here then we just add the upper part of it and then we will give the refining option its chance to figure out what we actually want to have in the picture and you can see it's really fast really easy very nice kind of meditative so yeah if you have some nice music with it it's a good afternoon so there we go let's use the refine tool and just brush over this again go step by step don't do everything at the same time there we go what's through the inside two very nice affinity photos doing a really good job okay there we go down here down here oh well this okay oh this did it it went in here so this is not so good but I will add it on later it's not a problem let's go to apply go up here again let's add this part again there we go no problem and I think it will add a little bit of that power this it messed up a little bit down here we will fix this real quick also not a problem mmm-hmm there we go and then I will add a little bit of the ground here so maybe we can use this in a light bulb I'm not sure yet but you never know there we go I messed up a little bit here too okay that's good enough so we have our lighthouse let's copy this let's go copy and make a new picture and I will save this because or now I will export this because I had the problem before that my program was crashing so I'm not taking any chances this time lighthouse there we go we have a nice PNG let's see if this worked out go here on place and then take this and put it here yeah there we go okay this worked so let's close this and let's close this no we don't need that it's actually a really huge picture of the lighthouse we don't need that much but we can resize that of course no problem there we go and you probably see that there is a blue hue in there but we will remove that so this is also not a problem oh this is really nice okay let's resize it to fit in here like this seems good okay we can remove the rest later and now we're gonna use the mask so I use a little trick I will create a group of this so it's just one object but I was still created a group because then I can move the picture inside of the group so now if I pull the mask inside of the group put it over the picture I you can see I can still move around the picture it's a very nice trick to use with this and as you can see because the the sky was blue we have some blue light here and some blue light here so it is not ideal for us what we're gonna do is we go to adjustments and we are going to HSL go here to master and select blues and just this color that you see the blue is gone BAM just one move and it's gone very easy very fast the next thing we're going to do is but we need to use the mask again by the way let's duplicate the mask or now we are going to duplicate the mask we're gonna select this make a selection there we go you how to control and click to make the selection just from the mask and then we go to our background picture where we have to like Bob and we will Oh let's safe before we do that let's save this let's see mr. Nowak sometimes the program has for some reason problems too to copy stuff but there is a workaround when you have a selection and then you click on duplicate it will just duplicate the selection so now we have just the lightbulbs it's a really really easy small trick so now we have the light bulb on top of the other stuff reason for that is because we want to have all these water drops on the lighthouse too we could of course set this to multiply like I've seen it in other tutorials but the problem is that this will multiply the lighthouse also with the background and we don't really want it it's a solid light ground why should it multiply with the background there's no reason for that so how are we going to do is we take this and then we go here to select and sample color and select it in a way that only the or mostly just the the water drops remain let's go like this apply and go to delete there we go and now what we can do is we set it probably to overlay there we go so we have a really crisp outside of the bulb but at the same time the water drops are on the light tower or lighthouse and also it affects down here the grass and everything in a very nice way so this looks a lot more like the lighthouses inside of the Bob compared to just setting the light bulb to multiply you see this looks pretty fake it doesn't really it doesn't really work but in that way with overlay this looks I think much more realistic so let's safe again just to be sure and we are basically almost done we have a little bit more work to do because of course a lighthouse is best if you have it in a dark surrounding so let's make a new layer select a nice night color a nice blue dark blue let's take this one just fill it with the color and then let's see what we're gonna do we're gonna set it to soft light hard light soft light seems good yeah that seems good maybe we can even go a little bit darker I don't know let's see where's my now let's go lighter again it wasn't that good this is nice okay we can still play around with this later but it already looks like the room is darker the surrounding is darker around the lighthouse now we're going to create the color beams or the light beam sorry so for this it's also a very quick chop we will go and zoom in a little bit and we will create a selection of a cone so we need again our trick of holding the shift button and clicking to create the mask there we go and for this one we will take orange a nice warm orange there we go maybe like this I need to change my brush to something around this is okay I'm not worried about the softness or hardness because about just use the Gaussian effect on this there we go so this is one of them I will create another one on top of this it's just a little bit smaller here we go for this we're gonna use a yellow and I'm just I'm right now I try to do it in just one layer not 100% sure it's gonna work because before I used three different layers but let's try this let's see if this actually works with just one layer the last one gonna zoom in a little bit more and we're gonna take some white light so let's go like this and make it very spiky at the end I think the white light I will put on our own layer on its own layer let's make a new layer there we go take our brush again take white as a color this time color it in okay and now let's go and use select the layer the first layer go to effect over here this is a layer effect and use the Gaussian blur we're gonna preserve the alphas no we're not gonna preserve the alphas in this case so this is okay like this yes the other one for the white we do the same like that looks okay good let's see if we should be multiplied this or lighten color let's see screen overlay no no black color seems good do we need the effect for this one oh wait a second this is breaking off this is not good okay let's set this to normal and see if we use a effect here mmm to use overlay hard light doesn't it doesn't really do anything okay just leave it like that I will paint in here a little bit more because this looks not as good as I hoped it would let's set this hardness the opacity and the size down a little bit bigger painting a little bit more here there we go okay good perfect I will go in here and maybe create a mask for this or maybe I will do this later because we will just use this beam and turn it around to the other side so let's take all of this and group it with ctrl key and then i duplicate the layer and just rotate it to the other side maybe we have a little bit downwards there we go no not that much maybe let's see like this make it a little bit longer there we go okay this one also a little bit longer maybe there we go this is pretty nice I don't even think we need a mask into it in the middle here it's working like this I think and now I will create a little bit of fog inside of our light bulb to add a little bit of a touch to it so let's create a new layer down here inside of the group where we have the mask so below the mask of course we will use the same trick oh let's save let's save to be sure to be on the safe side that's what the words where the word comes from there we go let's go to brushes and then we select texture brushes and we're gonna use this one up here which looks like this and we will just okay wait a second we will now enable the effect for this layer also Gaussian blur and you can see it in the preview of the of the brush how it's gonna look so let's click click don't click and drag just click so you have a bit better result there you go maybe you reduce the opacity a little bit like maybe set it down to 20 to add a little bit more there we go and maybe here so ok I think I think that's good enough you can of course reduce the layer opacity to select how much folk you want to have let's look at the complete picture yes that's nice let's see yeah I think that's that's good alright so basically that's it that's how you put a light bulb or a lighthouse inside of a light bulb let's open the other picture again so ever comparison if I reach my goal so this is what I did before the color cost looks nicer on this one I have to say mmm let's let's change this a little bit here this is why I like layers to work with layers because it makes it more editable later on you know gives you a lot of possibilities to change it around maybe use a little bit of violet blue for this let's see that's a bit too much violet let's compare them again hmm let's see okay I think I'm getting too perfectionist about this right now I don't need that we're basically done with the tutorial was pretty long today Wow 20 minutes well thank you for watching you see it's very easy you can support me on patreon if you want if you do you get of course my original files with all the layers and you can post your creations in the community on patreon to get feedback from me and suggest topics that you want to see so thank you for your support if you do that that would really help me out and see you in the next episode bye
