PBC marketers can disagree on a lot of things but there's one thing that we all probably are an agreement with is when we log into our Google ads accounts we look at our display placements and then we see results like this even if we're using more specific audiences like custom intent or in-market audiences we still see lots of mobile app campaigns that are spending a lot of our display budgets and giving us almost nothing in return we can no longer exclude the Adsense for mobile apps com URL from our placement campaigns and then when you try to go into your campaign settings and look at devices we're still not allowed to exclude certain app categories from the device section as time goes on Google's making it harder and harder for marketers to exclude mobile app categories from the display campaigns while figuring out how to exclude mobile app categories within the actual platform is pretty difficult to find our good friend Kirk Williams he wrote a blog post on zeta marketing coms blog of how to exclude all 141 mobile app categories so thanks to Kirk I'm gonna show you how you can do this very easily within google ads editor and if you want to look at it how to do it yourself we also have his link of his blog down below in the description so let's dive in it's only gonna take a couple seconds open up Google Ads editor filter by just your display campaigns select whichever display campaigns you want to exclude mobile app categories which is most likely all of them now go to the manage section which is the lower left-hand section scroll down until you find the mobile app categories negative portion click on the add negative mobile app category I always choose the campaign level if you would like you can go down by category by category however I typically just want to select all apps and click OK after you post live all app categories will be excluded from your display campaigns and you should stop seeing a lot of that junk coming through and your placement reports thanks for watching our video make sure to subscribe to the paid media pros channel to see more videos you

Original Description

Learn how to exclude all mobile app categories in your Google Ads campaigns with this video. In August of 2018, Google made a change to their Display Network exclusion options. Advertisers could no longer exclude mobile apps with just a click of a button. While that caused some initial chaos, Kirk Williams of ZATO Marketing came to the rescue. Our friend Kirk found a way, using Google Ads Editor, to exclude all mobile app categories in the matter of seconds. This video will show you exactly how to exclude the app categories. And if you want the full, in-depth post from Kirk, the link is below.
