build up your profile and get jobs at a-list companies it gives me immense pleasure to welcome mr ishan sharma who i am sure most of you already know a lot about hi sean hi dwani hi everyone how are you i'm doing great i just came back from an outing but yeah how are you i'm fine too thank you i'll just give a brief introduction and then you can start okay so those of you who don't know about shan ishan is the co-founder at market up dot in and a famous youtuber whose videos have inspired a lot of us he enjoys building web apps and has learned much stack web development so without further ado uh i asked ishan to like give a proper introduction of himself and then we can move forward hi everyone i am ishaan a lot of you might know me from youtube videos that you might have watched of me so i started learning to code right after my je advance exam ended and i have been following that for the past three to four years right so that's a little bit about me and what i do i also have a content business called as market up i work with coding brands and help them build their youtube channels and instagram accounts as well so i'm i'm both into content as well as into code like uh what naval ravikant always says the best leverages code and content so that's basically what i'm focusing on right now and in this particular live session we'll be talking about some high paid jobs that you can get into and i don't have experience of all of them however i have talked with a lot of friends that i have and based on their experiences i'll just be sharing a little bit about all of these fields that you can get into and uh basically what you need to learn and how much can you end up making in these fields so that's what the plan is for today and then we'll of course take questions from you if you have any great so i'll just start with some very basic questions in this session we'll go about you know like various domains and various domain related questions because i read your profile and i saw you have so much knowledge in so many domains so i just got i just got excited and took questions from most of the domains so first question is which tag text stack are you currently working with and what made you choose it so at the current moment i'm i'm just using mon i have also been learning next years which is great to use if you're already a react developer that's what i have been using to just build my it's basically like a hobby for me to code i don't like make money from it but i just love to code and that's why i'm just like using it so that's what i do why i chose it just because i like how react is it's a very easy to understand uh framework or library that you have with javascript that's why i chose it it works really well with node.js and because the whole javascript ecosystems everything works really well together and of course because mun is the most popular uh you know stack out there okay that sounds great so can you tell us about any recent projects that you've been working on and what is the scope of those projects sure so i have been working on clones as well as just trying to understand how all of these applications work you know like you have zoom for example you have slack you have all of these like for example tinder how does that really work so just trying to build out the the front-end architecture of all of these uh with the help of react is what i have been focusing on for the past one or two years uh but yeah it's more of a hobby for me so i don't like do it all the time and just focus hundred percent on it but that's what i have been working on i also like to just build games with the help of javascript so you like mario game for example or just simple games like a simple candy crush game how do you create that how do you make sure that new components are created for every single candy that you uh create and the rules for that like you know when the three candies match it has to more candies have to come down so how do you create that logic that's what i have been focusing on majorly right that sounds quite interesting i see a youtube plaque behind you just out of curiosity can you tell us what inspired to you you know like to build a youtube channel and to go about inspiring others of your own gen yeah sure so i just realized that i was in a college called as bizpilanigawa campus and that college had some really inspiring people around me right so some people were doing uh internships at harvard right in second year of college some people were working in carnegie mellon some people were starting their own businesses trying to raise funding so a lot of interesting folks were there and so i thought if i can just interview them and see their journey and then record that and document that and share that with everyone more awareness can be created about all of these paths so that's basically what i went into i just asked them that hey it would be great if we can just talk about your journey and i can record this conversation i can share that up on spotify and youtube so that's how it all started of course because of the pandemic we all came back home and so i wasn't able to interview more of these people and then i realized that even i can contribute and i can also share my own experiences whatever i have so it was a constant journey of learning and then creating like a summary of whatever i have learned right so for example i was learning web development two years ago so i used to share whatever it is that i'm learning every single day i was uh also learning about social media marketing and freelancing video editing for example so just like learning things as well as documenting the process of learning them right so i documented the whole process of me building market up starting it you can see the first video in which i launched market up that is a year ago from today and then how did i get the clients how did i scale the business how did i hire new people all of that is documented on my channel right so that's what majorly was my motivation just to like spread awareness and tell people that you don't need to be extraordinary to start something out of like something that is not done by most people right like you won't see many third years having 15 people and working with 12 brands and scaling it two hundred thousand dollars and all recording revenue so that's what i have been focusing on i mean your journey is really inspiring i mean i'm sure a lot of the viewers here have been inspired by your journey and have started working on their own content as well so like i understand the journey of others can actually you know inspire us to start our own journey yeah so a very general question a lot of people ask me a lot of people ask each other so how does a resume actually differentiate an individual from others i feel like for developers particularly the resume that you need to create should actually show your capabilities like your skills that you actually have and that can only happen through a variety of projects that you can list for them you know a lot of people just start out with you know how much cgpa they have in in their particular degree well that is completely fine and if you have a nice cgpa there's nothing wrong in posting that in your cv but uh for people like me or for people who are more into building mode showing that you are actually interested into software development can go a long way you're right i have talked with a lot of people who are in big tech and all of them have this thing that if you are really curious about software development if you can build projects and if you can show that that yes i have built these projects here is the live link of it i launched it on on on android play store i got 50 000 downloads i generate this much revenue that will have a lot more impact on the person who is looking at your uh resume right because they know that yes you can not just build out like a simple demo project but you can also get it up and running you can get it on production and you can actually see the impact that you have created right so it's one thing to just make it and put it up on github and just be like and it is completely different to you know understand how to scale the infrastructure and do all of these things i have a friend of mine who's a senior in my college and he has been working as a full stack developer for the past eight years and so he i have literally seen him build out the platform that he was working on five times over from scratch because the first version he built was just for his fun just to see how things work the next one as he got more and more users he had to scale so he had to use different frameworks that will help him to do that right now he's working with next years and the platform is really fast and it works really well so that's what he focused on doing so yeah i mean that's what i think is the most important thing for your resume you know just being to the point like exactly what you built and then displaying that uh effectively on your resume that's actually true upscaling your projects according to requirements and then keeping your resume updated according to the same i guess that's really really important so the next question is what are the do's and don'ts during the interview preparation procedure all right so i haven't prepared for coding interviews myself i'll be very much honest with all of you i learned to code and then i realized that i can get a job but why not do something amazing at this point at my life like why not build out a company myself why not build out a product that i can scale why not get funding why not build something bigger so that's what i am more focused towards what are the do's and don'ts so i just shared my own experience i have hired 15 people at market up what i see people making mistakes in is basically i feel like many people are not confident enough in their skills some people also list their uh skills as like a bar you know like in the resume you might see people say i am 95 percent good at this particular skill or i am 70 percent good at that 70 percent what does that mean 70 of a skill doesn't make much sense if you are skilled enough mention it right there but just don't say i am 40 percent good at you know x skill because that doesn't make much sense that is one thing that i think people should change in w preparation i feel like for particularly developers who are trying to get into companies many people are always thinking about how can i memorize our particular approach to solve a question right and they don't really think about just explaining that situation to the to the recruiter like how do you arrive at a particular solution you know that's what i have heard from my seniors whenever i talk to them away will thank you i try to show them the steps that okay this is what my thinking process is like and this is how i approach to this uh this question i'm not able to understand this part of it but this is what i think and then even the recruiter can help you out right so documenting that journey in front of the recruiter i think is really important and not just like blatantly copy pasting the exact solution even if you know it so i feel that is important for people to understand other than that i think that's pretty much it that's interesting i mean without giving a lot of interviews you have a lot of interview experience no so i i have been talking with a lot of people all the seniors that i have are working at companies you know and shia gupta i was talking with her she's really nice and explaining her experience of getting interviewed at amazon and other places other people as well you know like nishant is a friend of mine lover is a friend of mine so all of these people i talked with and i learned a lot from their experiences and of course i've interviewed a bunch of people in on my channel as well so i have learned thing or two from them too talking actually builds a community i mean you have a community of people who actually you know have a lot of experience with interviews and that actually inspires you i mean that's great so now i'll just move on to the field domain related questions after like after doing with the generalized so there was this one question that i found on most of the websites like what is a typical career path for a data scientist on a team to look like and how does a person get to that point in a career the typical career path of a data scientist i feel like first of all i personally started getting into data science i learned the typical things you know numpy matplotlib pandas then i went into learning more trying to build more and more projects the career path i feel like first of all you do the usual stuff titanic data set you know the more typical ones then you try to build out your own data set finding all problems and that's how you build your own projects then you try to visualize the solution of each problem that you end up solving that's what you do career path uh so basically once you create all these projects it's time for you to make the resume and then you go out and you try to find out companies is that what you mean by the career path or uh like once you become a data scientist what do you do after that is that what your question is no actually how do you start with it how do you actually proceed with the you know like once i choose it like i think i want to be a data scientist what's after that yeah so basically you learn about all of these uh frameworks right learn about all these libraries like you have numpy you have matplotlib learn how all of these really work learn to take data and then clean the data you know like take out the important information from that data and then create like a proper structure and then try to find out the important thing that you need to predict or do whatever it is that the problem demands you do that's what you need to first of all figure out after that once you've done this create like a project list in which you have a data of your own and not just the typical ones and then try to pitch out for all of these companies try to participate in contests that happen on kaggle as well that is helpful too and then you can try to prepare for the coding interviews that happen for data scientists right so what's the career aspect of this like what's the what does the career of a data scientist look like pertaining to the a-list companies the jobs in ls companies so basically asking the progression yeah exactly what's the career progression so once you started the data scientists you can then uh there are like multiple roles right so for example there'll be like a junior data scientist and then you try to as you have more experience in the company you get bigger projects then you move up you get into a more senior role then you're handling a bunch of data center setup that are working with you you have a team of software engineers that you're working with as well trying to talk to them trying to understand what is the exact problem what is it that you want to evaluate so i was talking with the with uh with a senior from my own college she's a pass out she's working in coursera at that time as a data scientist right so her whole task was basically to you know you might have seen the different buttons on the website of course era so her whole task was what if i change the color of each of these buttons does that lead to more clicks so that is the problem that she had so she was trying to evaluate for that then the text that is there right so they try to do these eb testings that happens a lot in duolingo as well the founder was talking about that but majorly just doing these experiments and finding out what is the most optimal way to create a platform that's what you majorly do and then you end up going to a senior position and then you work with the team of data scientists and software engineers together right so now moving on to another domain what are the core career skills required for a data engineer and again what's the scope of career of a data engineer right so basically i was talking with the with a friend of mine on my channel itself and he's a freelancer he's a freelance data engineer so what he does is that he helps businesses clean the data that they have and try to come up with insights from the data that he has gathered from the platform so that's basically what he majorly does you can go and take a look at the full interview on my channel if you're interested just search for my data engineer and you'll get the complete list and from that you can come up with the with the exact idea of what it actually does i just thought of sharing this part over here because i have experience talking with them but the full video will give you much more insight so you should totally take a look at that sure so another question from another domain how would you go about developing an analytical product from scratch can you give me an example like uh like whatever you decide whenever whenever a product is designed like what are the analytical prospects of that product and how do you go about you know like starting from scratch like if i develop a product of my own and it has some analytical value in the market how do i go on developing it from scratch and you know like upscaling it to an actually industry related project sure so i'll give an example and i was working at a startup from my own college so what they basically used to do is that they were selling courses about programming right so what they did is that they built out the main platform and then they tried to a b test they built out landing pages and they try to find out what is the exact metric that is important right is it having a video at the starting of the landing page is it having that clock that you might see at many businesses saying that hey this software runs out in five minutes sign up right now creating that sense of urgency or is it having a having a you know there's a there's a part at the bottom of the landing page saying that this person just bought this course five seconds ago right is that more valuable so we created multiple different landing pages and i was the one who was handling the facebook ads and i was basically working through all of that trying to figure out what is more effective what gets lower cost per landing page right so that's basically what my task was and uh we were also using this this platform called as hot jar and you were trying to understand the heat maps of the user so basically what happens is whenever you open any website you are going around the website and you accept the cookies which means that people they can now properly track you and so with the help of uh hot jar once you integrate it into your product you can exactly see which user went to which part of your website and what did they do on the website exactly so i was the person responsible for going through every single user session and seeing your calculator so maybe this is the part that we should be working on so this is basically what i did to understand and analyze that what is more important right the right copy on the landing page right like how do you create the perfect copy that attracts the developers to take a part in this particular course so that's what i focus on majorly basically over there right so now from another domain what is the roadmap to starting a career in blockchain development i mean it's the bu it's all the buzz right now it's everywhere it's blockchain it's nfts i mean i don't really understand all of it but i'm trying to cope up with it so what's the role yeah first of all first of all i think you should understand the basic concept of blockchain like what is a blockchain exactly right i have made i think three to four videos at this point talking about this exact same topic and once you understand what is a blockchain and how does it really work right so it's basically like you have like a crud application in this case you cannot delete anything you cannot update anything you can just create and you can read that's what basically our blockchain is right so the next step is to understand the different types of blockings the most important one that people are focusing on right now is ethereum of course there are other ones as well you know you have uh you know how you have projects like polygon which is a side chain on ethereum you have uh you have things like solana which is which is having low transaction fees and high speed so first of all figure out ethereum and how it exactly works also try to understand what is the shortcomings of bitcoin which makes ethereum more usable for a developer exactly and then go and learn how ethereum blockchain really works what is a smart contract and how does it really work try to use the remix ide that you can use to create a actual smart contract try to use test nets right so you have ring beat test net that you can use i also have to understand what is meta mask and uh install a meta mask try to interact with some decent exchanges decentralized applications that are already available maybe you can you can try to uh maybe have like a thousand or two thousand rupees stored with you you can transfer that into your metamask in ethereum format you can transfer that to like a decent exchange like sushi swap or pancake swap try to uh learn what are liquidity pools exactly and how they really work so all of these things will teach you what is decentralization and how does it really work right but how is it possible that you can create a banking system that is completely decentralized that is completely based on code without any middlemen out there and what do you do when someone doesn't pay back the loan right like there has to be an entity in the middle that actually uses the collateral and then they convert the collateral into actual money and give it back to the people who actually loan the money so just in that sense how does it really works so learn about that once you're done with that then you can try to learn about things like you know you have truffle you can try to learn about hard hat and then you can try to build your own smart contracts right so that's basically what you do there are a ton of things that you can explore in this field and a lot of it is just research at this point right so people are confused about it but yeah i have interviewed some amazing blockchain developers so you can go take a look at that video it's a much more in-depth video which will take you through every single step that you need to learn if you want to become a blockchain developer so all of this is all up to your imagination up to your exploration as much you explore you'll learn more about this field i too i'm learning about it i am also building some decent life applications trying to see how they really work so yeah it's a work in progress you just said a lot of terms that i need to google so yeah i'll get on with the videos you have suggested me yes yes yes just just search on a search on youtube by my blockchain and you'll get a bunch of videos that you can go through yeah but yeah metamask is really important metamask out then how does it really work so focus on that what are my favorite web 3 projects so you know yeah i am learning about dows and how they really work you know you have the maker down you have the constitution tao and uh of course we have seen ethereum india hackathon and the projects had come out of it we have seen what uh polygon is and how it really works there they have pos chain and how what other projects that they are working on i'm learning about that so lana is a really interesting thing and how it really works there are some problems with solana so trying to just learn about that so lana kendall you can have multi-threading which is not a function or a feature of ethereum so what difference is it faster than ethereum subscribers that was really fascinating to me so yeah these are some things that i'm interested in right now the anker protocol is really interesting as well how they use ustn2 and luna to generate apis so all of this is just under decentralized finance so you can learn more about it learn about farming learn about liquidity pools how does that work so that is a part i'm interested in right now and of course nfd is you know nfd is everywhere people are learning more about nfds using nft is in actual cases like having utility nfds and not just add nfds for example creating ticketing system with the help of nft that is really interesting to me as well so i'm just like trying to explore these fields right now right so i mean what is the career prospect of starting like a basic blockchain developer a beginner blockchain developer what is the career prospect of that individual there are so many opportunities right now in the field just because the funding amount that people are raising is absurd at this point you know sequoia capital y combinator all of these people are going ham into pouring all of the money into all of these startups so because of that and because blockchain is new and it has gone mainstream just in 2020 so you won't find a lot of blockchain developers having let's just say five years of experience the blockchain developer that is very rare to find most of them will just be like one two or three years at max as a blockchain developer so the sooner you start the better it will be in the future as well right so a lot of my friends are actually you know like getting into the stream so i was very curious about what's the force that is driving them yeah so it's just like you have to get in as soon as possible this is just like the 2000 bubble that was there everyone was really excited about it and people who had like a dot com after their startup name were getting funded funded like crazy so get in here there are also a lot of opportunities for just consulting right so if you are a developer who is working in top tech companies you can always reach out to web3 startups and help them understand and just consult them about how to build like a scalable product so that's always the case and they end up paying you very very well as well like i have a friend of mine he makes like four to five hundred dollars an hour in the consulting thing and he's just consulting a funded web three project that he's working on so we'll be a teaser there's just too much that you can do right you can always get hired as a blockchain developer ask about fair you can also get into deveral position so recently kyoteki because the web3 developer ecosystem is quite new a lot of startups are also hiring people who can educate other people about the same thing so that's what what devrel really does he or she is basically focused towards creating a community of like-minded web 3 developers and then creating content around that basically right so all the tutorials that you might see morales is a really interesting startup and what they are working on i got to talk to the founder and they were basically trying to educate more people more web 2 developers to jump into web 3 because they have a web 3 based developer based basic like you know you have aws so the web 3 version of aws is basically morales and there are of course commerce that they're trying to become that but become that service page basically in web3 so that's what they're doing right so we have a question from the comments like do you have any suggestions or guidance regarding the technology that is involved in android development like android development is a huge buzz like ios android development is a huge buzz right now so how do you you know like initiate a career in android development and how do you go about it sure so i had a talk with the android tech leader at facebook right the person who like actually held the facebook app on android he recently left facebook but he was working there for the past seven years and he's a friend of mine so i talked with him and he basically is also a stanford lecturer right now so he basically just told me that you should start out with cortland kotlin or kotlin and you start learning how it works and just try uh try to build out a very simple application now i have honestly no experience in android development i brought him in for the video itself so go take a look at that video that will teach you a lot more about how to exactly do it but i'll just say start with kotlin and start building out some projects and uh the google android development channel you can just google for that and you will get to find a list of videos that they have so go through that and that will teach you a lot about this particular field of final development right i actually am a gdc lead myself and we recently had a google android uh campaign i mean it was very interesting i mean you explore kotlin and it's like it's a whole new world out there so i just you know like he was basically saying that people get distracted just like they get confused between cortland flutter you know react nature exactly he just basically said don't think about all of this just pick one kotlin is what is industry accepted just pick that and go with it don't don't overthink about this exactly you should actually go into the domain that actually makes you feel like coding right once you start coding in the right place in the right platform you actually start enjoying it so before moving to the android part i missed a blockchain related question so i'll just put it forward does shifting to web3 require a whole new skill set or the web2 developers can actually acclimatize there you can very well uh get into that role so basically i had a friend of mine who was a android developer and he was our typical web 2 developer and then he got uh he got a position as a web 3 developer intern at a startup called huddle so over there what he did is that he learned about how it basically works right so he learned about the whole stack ethereum smart contracts and it is very much similar so you just have the web3.js javascript framework that you use and it is just basically having a man stack on top you can have your web3 frameworks right so knowing man stack is a must if you want to get into this field and then of course you can build on top of it using the frameworks that are available so you can definitely uh get in here and you can just need to learn a couple of frameworks and you can be good to go right the front is going to be the same right the front end of any single application is going to be the same so you will need to know react you will need to know all of these things the back end instead of having like a proper or a sql database they actually have a blockchain so that's the way because that there is and that's basically it now you just really explained it to me in a very simple way and i actually understood it that's amazing actually so moving on to the next domain now we're moving to devops so what benefits do you believe devops brings to a company and why honestly i don't have much experience about devops right now so i cannot comment on it okay so i guess next questions are all null and void but okay do you have any basic knowledge of it i don't i honestly don't i guess that's it for the questions that i have so do you have any footnote kind of information for the viewers that actually who are actually seeing this video about the top jobs that are you know like currently trending or the type of careers that are actually in the bus right now there are many more jobs that you can get into like for example my friend who was into coding he learned about how investment banks really work he learned about trading and all and he was interested into that he was a part of the wall street club that we have in our college and that's basically about like investing and all so he learned about all of this field he got um he got a minor in finance as well in our own college and then oscar bad he got placed at nomura nomura is our investment banking firm as an analyst junior analyst over there so what he does is that they use models and they analyze the stocks and they try to do tail trading and all of that stuff right fno derivatives and all that that's what they focus on so it's all about you figuring out what is your interest like a lot of people are also into like management consulting and all so they try to prepare for that and a lot of companies come to my college to get placements for that as well so objects is that you can particularly explore and just like starting your own agency is also a really interesting thing right so i was recently trying to i had an idea and i wanted someone to build out the platform for me because i cannot code that should just take too much of my time so i just reach out to people saying that hey you're a developer can you help me build up this platform and they basically said that hey i have a team of developers and we work on this we like an agency and i was like sure so what is the pricing for this building a simple platform and he said that yeah it's about uh about like what 16 17 lakhs for building our platform so there is huge huge demand for people who can build out platforms for all of these people and they charge top bugs right so the fees for great development agencies is off the roof a lot of people have ideas for what they want to build they reach out to these agencies and they get it made and so just to create the mvp right and then they can particularly hire developers and they can get it done so this is one field that you can definitely explore you might find that in your own city there would be a ton of small to medium businesses who have their presence in that particular city but if you can just reach out to them see that hey we can take this online we can do something great they would be much more willing to work with you right it like for them it doesn't make much sense like 15 20 lakhs is nothing and if they can see that yes our business will go online our revenue can shoot up like 10x what it is right now they would be much more willing to work with you and if you can uh you know convince them with that that's what i see happens a lot in this agency space so if you're a developer and if you have some developer friends try to work with them and try to start your own agency you'll make a lot more in that particular situation but it's going to be a unscalable agency you cannot scale it because you'll be working with a select set of um you know clients that you would basically be having but you can do that over and over again so you can work on that as well so that's one thing you can also get into ui ux develop designing so i have i was talking with sapta who's a who's the head of product at swiggy so he walks over there he was initially a designer then he got promoted to roles so he helped me just like introduce me to the world of ui ux develop design and how it really works that is a really interesting video that you can watch on my channel as well i feel like i'm plugging too much but that's literally what i have done on my channel uh i was talking with the ux designer at microsoft so he was also sharing his own journey he was initially learning to code then he liked uh building out prototypes on figma so then he reached out to microsoft and they had an empty role so he got the position he is currently working over there so just a lot of fields are there try to find out what is it that you like explore as much as possible and then come up to a conclusion and then go for it that's what i would say right i mean this has all been very inspiring honestly shawn i cannot believe you are you you're a college student right yes i am in third year and i've recently dropped out of college two days ago okay i'm just a third student and i have to say i am feeling really motivated right now and the first thing i'm doing after this session is connect with you on linkedin you're like get you like to get those updates about hi actually
