Elastic Block Store Explained under 1 minute
Key Takeaways
This video teaches about Elastic Block Store, a cloud hard drive that stores OS, logs, and temp files for EC2 instances
Full Transcript
Every EC2 instance also needs storage. This is where EBS volumes come in, Elastic Block Store. It's basically a hard drive for your server. Your operating system, logs, or temporary files live here. And if you stop or start the EC2 instance, the EBS volume stays intact. We don't want our app running on just one server because if that one server goes down, the whole app goes down. So, usually we run multiple EC2 instances across different availability zones. And the load balancer distributes traffic between them. This gives us fault tolerance and smoother performance. So, that's EC2, the engine that runs our back end. It has storage attached to it, connected it to our load balancer, our database, and it uses Amazon S3 to store and retrieve application data such as files and static assets.
Original Description
Every EC2 instance needs storage — and that's exactly what EBS is. Think of it as a cloud hard drive that stores your OS, logs, and temp files, and survives even when the server restarts. Pair that with multiple EC2 instances across availability zones and a load balancer distributing traffic, and you've got a fault-tolerant backend that keeps running no matter what.
