100,000 Subscribers! 🎉 (9 Years and 3 Key Lessons)

Thanks to the support of #TeamFlynn (that's you!) we crossed the 100,000 subscriber threshold, a milestone that seemed so out of reach not too long ago. Thank you so so much! We're building an amazing community here, and so far it seems you've been enjoying the recent push onto the platform and the videos I've been publishing for you. This YouTube channel started back in 2009, about 9 years ago, and it was something I've always just been "dabbling" with here and there throughout the years. I published videos randomly, mainly to support my blog content for things that required video to teach, like how to build websites, or how to start a podcast. As my business, and the online environment in general has changed over time, I realized that video - and YouTube in particular - was something I really needed to pay attention to. I finally decided to focus and go all-in on growing on this platform in late 2017, putting a plan into place to see what I could do here. Immediately, I was quick to find out that YouTube is a beast! Although I had organically grown to about 60,000 subscribers over the first 8.5 years, when I started to focus and add new videos, I only saw a couple hundred views from my subscriber base - if that. Why? Because I wasn't consistently providing value here, so why would people (or YouTube) reward me with views. I didn't deserve them. I almost threw in the towel because I saw it as a sign that I just wasn't meant to be here, but I also remembered what it was like to start a podcast, and start my blog. This stuff doesn't happen overnight, and I've grown to become a little spoiled with the amazingly engaged audience I've built on those other platforms.
