When we got started, you really couldn't get going very far without understanding something about the machine. That's no longer necessary. You could go your entire life as a programmer not understanding anything about CPUs or how these things compile or any of the rest of it. The challenge with that is you might make assumptions that you're making Python or other interpreted languages harder to get performance out of or making bad decisions because you don't have a sense of what happens underneath. It kind of reminds me of ORMs. ORMs are a great tool. It allows you to get to the database very, very quickly, but if you're not paying attention, you'll end up with an N+1 query. And if you're not aware of what it's doing underneath, you're going to cause yourself problems, right? Having a little bit of knowledge about those other parts, I think is there's value in that.
