Students Should Question AI — Not Copy It
About this lesson
If students copy AI… they stop thinking. And thinking is the whole point. Instead of letting AI write for them, teach students to use AI as a writing coach. Have them prompt AI like this: 👉 “Act as a writing coach. Identify gaps in my reasoning, unclear claims, or weak evidence. Do NOT rewrite sentences or suggest wording.” That constraint is intentional. AI analyzes. Students decide. After receiving feedback, students must: ✔ Choose which critiques matter ✔ Explain why they accept or reject feedback ✔ Describe how their revision improves their argument That’s metacognition — thinking about thinking. And that’s where real learning happens. Without reflection, AI feedback is just noise. Teach students to question AI, critique it, and stay in control of their thinking. Follow @TeachwithDrD for practical AI strategies that build critical thinking — not shortcuts.
