Let me show you something I recently came across… and it stopped me for a moment. A statue made entirely of discarded parts. Old car radios. Gauges. Kettles. Shoes and boots. Even a cheese grater. Things most of us would have long since thrown away, reassembled into something unexpected… and quite remarkable. And it got me thinking: In leadership, we’re often too quick to discard things. An idea that didn’t land. A process that felt outdated. A person we think has nothing more to offer. But experience teaches a different lesson. Sometimes what looks like “waste”, just needs a new context. Before you throw something away, like an idea, a resource, even a perspective, pause for a moment. You might be sitting on something far more valuable than it first appears. Think on it. Let me introduce you to my new friend. Look at this statue. Come in a little closer and look at the individual parts. Normally, they would be thrown away. You may recognize some of these from years in the past. Look at all the various things, the car radio, the gauges, the cups, the shoes, the boots, the cheese grater, all of these various things. Amazing what they coming together have been able to create into this statue. The leadership principle here, don't be too hasty or quick to toss out or discard an idea or an item. You may be able to refurbish it into something that's incredibly creative and could in fact help your bottom line. Think on it. Take care.
